Product Review – Empties

You could read a bajillion reviews from every makeup junkie, blogger & influencer out there and hey, they may or may not prove to be completely useful BUT there is no better review to consider than an empty bottle, tube or package. That is true testament to the product and although that doesn’t necessarily prove that it was infused with magical unicorn tears, at least you’re comfortable knowing that the user isn’t feeding you a bunch of hype or trying to sell you something for the sake of selling it.

Now, we try not to hype products up TOO MUCH but Jennifer is naturally a hype girl and almost always loves everything that comes her way (must be nice not to have issue-prone skin huh)? Jasmine on the other hand, bless her heart, has super sensitive skin that doesn’t make friends easily with every kid on the block in fear of being bullied and harassed for LIFE. So, (& we’re sure you’ve noticed if you’ve been following us from the get go) we share our own individual experiences with a certain product if it just so happens that we’re using the same thing. That way you’re provided with two different views from two different individuals. One with “normal” skin and one with “sensitive.”

We want to start sharing our empties with you as we reach the final dregs and this is our first installment. If you’re interested in a certain product you’re always welcome to reach out to us since there’s a chance we’ve both tried it and have a tale to tell. Don’t be shy, internet trolls aren’t and neither should you – hit us up and let us know your thoughts if you’ve had a different experience with what we’ve tried or have products to suggest. Contrary to our ever so humble beliefs – we aren’t all knowing.

You can shop our empties by clicking on the title of each!

Jennifer’s Empties…

I’m always dismayed/elated when I finish a product. Does anyone else wish they would last forever? Just me? I spend $80 on a moisturizer it better last at least 6 months you hear me? Ha ha. Such is life, so if it’s something I loved I’ll definitely re-purchase and if it’s something I just liked enough to use until it was empty then I peruse replacements. No biggie. I’ve never had negative reactions to a product so once I make that purchase I’ll almost certainly be using it until the end.

Glow Recipe Banana Souffle’ Moisture Cream: “A soothing, lightweight moisturizer, this sweet soufflé of banana, magnesium, turmeric, and cica is your recipe for calmer, hydrated, even skin.”

I’m ngl – I got this solely because I love the scent and taste of banana (not that I ingested it) & was excited to add some joy to my nightly routine. I also needed to replace a moisturizer & I know that Glow Recipe is clean and has great reviews for many of their products. I usually like my night cream to be thicker (especially in the colder months) but again, went with lightweight because I realllly wanted to experience the smell. I was dismayed to find out that it only slightly smelled like banana – maybe enough to call it Banana Souffle’. Like, Banana Lite because of the souffle. Anyways, I liked the lightweight formula, but it was LIGHT. Almost runny. It did keep my skin hydrated though which is what it set out to do. I’m not completely sure it combatted any redness. I also use serums & face oils so it could be a combination of what I was using that kept any redness at bay . Overall, it’s a nice daily moisturizer & seems to successfully target dryness & redness but if you’re interested in it because of the banana scent – you gon be sad. I may or may not re-purchase this one. I’m currently using the Fenty Hydra Vizor as my daily moisturizer and am IN LOVE so I’ll be sticking with that for the time being.

Hangover Pillow Balm Ultra-Hydrating Lip Treatment: “A hydrating and nourishing lip treatment that leaves lips feeling smooth, soft, and plumped with moisture.”

Oooh yes girl. I’m replacing the heck out of this sucker. I loved every little bit. I purchased it in early November and I was using it daily until it ran out last month (April). 6 months. Money well spent. I got it in the original scent/color & I believe they now have 4 more shades. I don’t like to wear lip gloss (especially on its own) because for some reason it always makes my lips look really dark and purple. No thank you sir. BUT I will wear it just for treatment purposes like this one. The avocado & shea butter are SO NICE on the lips. It’s very smoothing, really hydrating and smells amazing. I love the long lasting cushion-y feeling the most & it really does plump as well & has a nice tingle. Highly recommend if you’re in the market for a gloss like balm.

Fenty Hydra Vizor Invisible Broad Spectrum Moisturizer/ Sunscreen: “A refillable two-in-one sunscreen moisturizer that’s lightweight, oil free, noncomedogenic, and invisible—it targets dark spots, and is makeup-friendly.”

I did a review on this moisturizer back when we started this blog and I 100% stand by my hyped up review. This is the next best thing to Rihanna herself. Mmmhmm. The pretty smell, the hydration, the texture, the fact that it’s “clean” & literally replaceable. I cannot recommend this moisturizer enough. In case you haven’t already noticed, it’s also a broad spectrum SPF 30. I love me a 2-in-1 that doesn’t sacrifice product quality. It did everything it intends to do – protected against that UV, decreased dark spots (although nothing I’ve ever used rids them completely), controlled shine, reduced pores and kept my skin lookin nice and fresh & bright throughout the day sans makeup. It also wears very well underneath makeup & provides a primer like base. I’m currently waiting for the re-fill to become available at Sephora (it’s been weeks now) so once it does I’ll be adding to cart faster than I can scream “I love you RiRi!”

Jasmine’s Empties…

I’m always blown away when I actually finish a product and want to re-buy it. Not to say I’m the pickiest person out there…but ok, maybe just a teeny bit. Lately I’ve been on a streak of finding things that work for me and my sensitive skin. This is a fantastic time to tell you all about the last 3 items I decimated. Nothing like empties to bring joy to my heart and knowing that my money was well spent!

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask: “A leave-on lip mask that soothes and moisturizes for smoother, more supple lips overnight.

Now this lil guy is an old favorite. I don’t even know how many years I’ve been using it for. This bad boy lasts me a good 5 to 6 months because of how much is in there. Now that is truly bang for your buck. I ALWAYS get original. I tried one of the flavored ones and for some reason it wasn’t moisturizing enough for me, I actually gave it away because I needed to switch back to the original immediately. My lips were suffering!
The highlight of my bedtime routine is putting this lip mask on, the texture and the feel of it on my lips is divine. It’s the final step of my evening skincare routine and I wake up to smooth and supple lips. Makes getting those matte lippies on a whole lot easier when your lips aren’t flaky and dry. If you are looking for something to give you supple lips then I highly recommend trying this out.

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Firming Cream with Peptides and Niacinamide: “A luxurious moisturizer that hydrates and helps visibly firm skin.”

I’ve gone through an insane amount of moisturizers and night creams. Very few products don’t cause breakouts for me or some kind of reaction that results in dermatitis. I’ve even tried the raved about OG FAB Ultra Repair Cream, and nope, disaster. My face looked horrible for days, yet here I was about to try something new from this brand. Best decision ever! I have been loving this cream since I picked it up and can’t be without it! I not only finished this but had a backup ready to go before it was even finished. I believe it will work for most skin types. It’s perfectly hydrating but not too heavy and doesn’t clog my pores. On days when I overdo my acids and need extra moisture I’ll layer an oil on top of this. Do I think it actually firms up the skin or smooth out wrinkles. Well that would be a no. This does not have the ability to get rid of wrinkles, but hydrated skin will look more plump and therefore youthful. I’ve definitely found that my skin looks bouncy and that helps the wrinkles appear less obvious. The overall healthier appearance of my skin automatically made me look just a wee bit younger. I’ll take it!

Almond Clear Mandelic Acid Level 2: “This advanced formula targets stubborn acne and folliculitis breakouts. Choose Level 2 for severe acne or folliculitis on the body.”

What can I say about this, I said it all in the last blog post! Guys, this is amazing for bringing down some active acne and preventing new breakouts. It’s also exfoliating and brightening. I finished the 1oz bottle in no time at all and am currently working on the 4oz. This is how much I love and need this. I would highly suggest reading the review to see all the reasons I’m such a huge fan. This has been the number one find for me this year. It’s been a long time since something has worked so effectively for me without also destroying my skin barrier. Another empty that will never remain an empty.

Had To Have The Skincare – Almond Clear Body Clearing Serum

PRODUCT REVIEW

ALMOND CLEAR – BODY CLEARING SERUM

It seems like these days the goal is GLASS skin, which is nearly impossible for most of us without a filter. Now as someone who has always had problematic skin, a product that actually smooths things out, gives me a glow and doesn’t destroy my skin in the process is a godsend. It may not be perfect but as damn close as I’m going to get! I do tend to get pesky body acne and KP on my arms and I absolutely hate it. I’ve tried everything under the sun and have finally come across something that is a winner. I kid you not, Almond Clear Body Clear Serum with mandelic acid is my new favorite product. I’m not often genuinely excited about skincare products unless they really perform and this had me hitting the re -buy button when this bad boy hit the halfway point. Discoloration and acne don’t know what hit them!

Exfoliants are trial and error and I’ve tried them all…including mandelic acid. Now if you don’t know what mandelic acid is, let me break it down for you. Mandelic acid belongs to the family of alpha hydroxy acids, otherwise known as AHAs. These are exfoliators that increase cell turnover, are anti-aging and can help with acne. Some other AHA’s like glycolic and lactic acid tend to be a little harsher on the skin so mandelic acid is a great option if you are a more sensitive skin type. It is larger in molecular weight than glycolic acid so it penetrates slower and that just may be what you need if you are super sensi. It’s great for brightening the skin, tackling some of that photo damage and just clearing out the pores. Might even give you that glassy, airbrushed look!

Now I have tried mandelic acid before and I thought it just did not work for me. Seeing another influencer (@prettyinprogress) highly recommend the Almond Clear Body Clearing Serum convinced me I had to give mandelic acid another shot. I had been using benzoyl peroxide but to lackluster results and bleached pajamas so I was ready for a change. I cannot believe that just after just 2 weeks my skin was smoother, clearer and glowing. As I continue to use it I keep seeing great results and minimal breakouts. I also use this to spot treat any zits that pop up on my face and it’s like MAGIC, poof, almost gone within a couple of days. I don’t know what the magic potion is in this formula but I’m a fan. Along with the Body Clearing Serum – Level 2 there is also a milder version in the Face & Body Clearing Serum -Level 1. My skin is quite used to retinols and acids so I went with the stronger version and I’m not using it all over my face. If you are new to acids I would suggest starting with Level 1 or getting Level 2 for body and Level 1 to use on your face.

I do want to point out that often with AHAs over exfoliation is the problem and not the product itself. There are only 3 things you need to remember. Start slow and don’t use it every day, ALWAYS wear sunscreen and moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Hope I was able to lend some assistance for those trying to choose a serum that solves rather than creates issues!

You can try it for yourself HERE It’s a great price compared to pricier serums out there and their site currently has 20% if it’s your first order!
